Nick Cannon Explains Why He Doesn’t Try to Bring All His Children Together at Once

While exclusively speaking with PEOPLE to promote his new morning show The Daily Cannon which debuts later this month, Nick Cannon talked a little bit about fatherhood and how it “works a lot better” for him to spend individual time with each of his kids rather than get the whole group all together.

The father of 12 told the outlet that the “only person that would benefit from having everyone in the same space would probably be me.” While he’s not against it, Cannon said all of his kids will come together “when necessary.”

“I feel like qualitative experiences are when I can give everyone their own individual experience,” he says. “I actually love stepping into their world. Going to their sports games or giving them their personal time for the holidays. So I have no problem with bouncing around,” he told PEOPLE.

Now despite heavy criticism about being a parent to so many kids, Cannon has said he believes he’s been put on this earth for this exact reason.

“I believe that’s what we’re put on this planet here to do, is to guide and usher in your offspring. So fatherhood is my number one and first priority when I open my eyes, when I get up every morning,” Cannon previously told PEOPLE. “Career and work and all of that, take second.”

He continued telling the outlet that there are “a lot of narratives out there about me and my life that I’m actually not even a part of. I understand that my lifestyle isn’t typical to society and can be viewed as unorthodox in some ways. But my goal in life is just to love my kids and be there for my kids and provide for them,” he says. “Like I always say, I just love with abundance.”

Speaking about how others feel about his decisions, he says, “Some people just won’t subscribe or understand because they’re not supposed to. It’s the life that I’ve been given and I choose to live this way and love my family, love my kids,” he adds.
