A substitute teacher who was supposed to fill in and conduct class as normal had different plans for students at a Texas middle school.
A video obtained by CNN shows the moment the substitute teacher encourages her students to fight each other during class, leading to a brutal physical altercation. In the video, you can hear a woman telling the students in a Kimbrough Middle School class to set a timer for the 30-second fight and to be quiet during the fight. To make matters worse, she even assigned a “door holder” to keep anyone else from entering the room!

The video has since made its rounds online and Mesquite ISD officials have said the substitute who had been working for the district since March 6, has now been fired. “Our investigation revealed that this substitute teacher encouraged students to fight each other during class, outlined rules for the students to follow, and even instructed a student to monitor the classroom door while the fights took place,” the statement to CNN said.
While the district officials didn’t publicly identify the teacher, they released a letter to parents and called her actions “appalling and intolerable,” KXAS-TV reported.
“As educators, our hearts are heavy knowing that an individual entrusted with the supervision and care of our students could behave in this manner, and we share the disgust that the families of students in this class must feel,” district officials said in the letter.
A spokesperson for the Mesquite Police Department said “no arrest has been made, but the case is still actively being investigated.”
How Are The Families Reacting To This?
Speaking to NBC affiliate KXAS in Fort Worth, Texas, Beatriz Martinez, whose daughter recorded the fight, said she was completely “devastated” by what happened:
“I was like, I couldn’t watch the full video,” Martinez said. “I had to stop it multiple times because I didn’t think it was real. I was like, ‘This must be a prank. This is not real.'” Martinez described the altercation like it was a fight club in class. “There’s no explanation, she just wanted those kids to fight,” she said.
She added, “Who in their right mind? Because I trust my child to go to school, but I also trust the staff to keep my kids safe. And then this lady, she just is actually making them fight,” Martinez said.
Shockingly, Martinez also shared that her daughter had also been antagonized to fight three girls during the incident, as some called out names of students to fight each other. Thankfully, the fights concluded when the bell rang.

“She was really saved by the bell,” Martinez said.
Now, since the fight, Martinez said her daughter has been getting threats from other students all for recording and reporting the incident to school officials. “I know my daughter. I know that she’s a sweet girl. And to just know that she’s getting death threats. I hate that,” she said.
