It’s been a tough start to the year for Nicole Curtis but instead of laying low, she decided to pull up to The Breakfast Club this morning to try and clear the air.
As some are aware, the former host of the HGTV series Rehab Addict is currently facing heavy backlash after a clip surfaced from behind the scenes of filming where she used a racial slur while working on a renovation. In the footage, Curtis, 49, is seen struggling through a renovation task when she blurts out, “Oh, fart n***.”
Almost instantly, she realized what the hell came out of her mouth.
The video shows her looking stunned before saying, “What the f* was that I just said?”** She then turns to a crew member and asks them to “kill that,” clearly hoping the moment wouldn’t make it past the editing room. Well… it did.
The clip eventually made its way online and sparked a wave of criticism. Soon after, HGTV decided to remove Rehab Addict from its platforms altogether.
Curtis Tries to Explain Herself on The Breakfast Club
On top of issuing statements from afar, Curtis has decided to sit down with the crew at The Breakfast Club to talk directly about what happened.
Here’s what she has to say:
On the show, she tried to explain the context behind the moment and why she reacted so quickly after saying it. But listeners online were quick to point out that apologies don’t always erase the impact.
HGTV Already Made Its Move
While Curtis was trying to clear things up on radio this morning, the network had previously made its stance clear.
HGTV confirmed that Rehab Addict, which had been on air since 2010, has been removed from its platforms after the footage surfaced.
“Not only is language like this hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners, and employees — it does not align with the values of HGTV,” the network said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
She did issue an apology to TMZ saying “I want to be clear: the word in question is wrong and not part of my vocabulary and never has been, and I apologize to everyone.” Still that wasn’t enough.
Now the question is whether Curtis’ Breakfast Club appearance will help repair the damage, or just keep the conversation going a little longer.
