Kiki Shepard, Beloved ‘Showtime at the Apollo’ Co Host, Passes Away at 74

The entertainment world has lost another star. Kiki Shepard, the one who held it down on Showtime at the Apollo for years, has sadly passed away at the age of 74.

According to her representatives who spoke to TMZ, Shepard died unexpectedly after suffering a massive heart attack late on Monday 16 March in Los Angeles.

Now if you grew up watching Apollo, you already know Kiki wasn’t just a co-host, she was the vibe. From 1987 to 2002, she helped bring that legendary Harlem stage to life, standing right alongside Steve Harvey for seven of those years. Together, they helped introduce a whole generation of raw, unfiltered talent. Now we all know that stage wasn’t easy. But Kiki brought big and great energy during every single show.

Before she became a household face, Kiki was already putting in work. Born on 15 July 1951 in Tyler, Texas, she started out as a professional dancer back in the early ’70s. Sis was really out here traveling the world, performing with groups like the DC Repertory Dance Company.

She didn’t stop at hosting. Kiki had her hands in acting too, showing up in shows like Baywatch, A Different World, and NYPD Blue. She even popped up as herself in Everybody Hates Chris, which just felt right, considering how much she meant to the culture. More recently, fans spotted her in Grey’s Anatomy, proving she never really stepped away from the spotlight.

A lot of folks don’t even realize she had a moment in The Wiz back in 1978. Fans, friends, and colleagues all sharing memories, clips, and gratitude for what she brought to the game. Because Kiki wasn’t just part of the show, she was part of the experience.

She will be greatly missed.
