Social media users were left cringing after Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) displayed an extraordinary level of sycophancy towards former President Donald Trump.
During an event in Nashua, Senator Scott, who had dropped out of the GOP presidential race, stood alongside Trump and another former candidate to celebrate Trump’s victory over Nikki Haley in the New Hampshire primary. Trump, known for his provocative remarks, brought up Haley’s appointment of Scott to the Senate seat, suggesting that Scott must hate her for endorsing him. In response, Scott approached the microphone and uttered the cringe-worthy statement, “I just love you.” Trump, reveling in the moment, praised Scott’s remark, calling him a “great politician.”
Scott’s endorsement of Trump came just days before the event, where he expressed his belief that Trump was the candidate to unite the country. This endorsement, along with the growing support from other Republicans following Trump’s successes in Iowa and New Hampshire, dealt a significant blow to Haley, as South Carolina politicians rallied behind Trump ahead of the state’s primary.
Criticism and Backlash:
Critics and commentators were quick to condemn Scott’s display of unwavering loyalty to Trump, labeling it as “painfully embarrassing” and “pathetic.”
As news of Scott’s remarks spread, social media platforms were flooded with reactions from users who expressed their disbelief and disappointment. Memes, jokes, and critical comments flooded the feeds, highlighting the extent of the public’s reaction to the incident. The incident also sparked discussions about the role of politicians and the importance of maintaining integrity and independence in their decision-making.
Reacting to the viral clip, radio host Charlamagne tha God said, “There is zero reasons for any Black person conservative or democrat to love politicians the way that ya’ll do. What have these elected officials ever done for Black people to get this kind of love and admiration from us??? And you liberal negroes don’t laugh because ya’ll be acting JUST LIKE THIS. Let’s Discuss…”
Rev. Al Sharpton also said it was “humiliating” watching Scott tell Trump “I love you.”
Tim Scott was humiliated by Trump with a fake smile and then kissed the ring afterwards “ I love you”…you sir embarrassed yourself, your fiancé, your family and South Carolina! https://t.co/uC3rRE2BWw
