A family is dealing with the unimaginable pain of losing their precious baby following a tragic incident at a daycare center.

According to ABC7, a kilo press that packages “large quantities of drugs” was discovered inside a Bronx day care, where four small children overdosed, one fatally, NYPD Chief of Detectives shared. The incident unfolded Friday afternoon after First responders reported to an emergency at Divino Nino Daycare on 2707 Morris Ave. in Kingsbridge. They responded to reports of cardiac arrest.

Upon their arrival, several children were sickened after coming into contact with suspected fentanyl. It was said that two of the kids were in cardiac arrest when first responders arrived at the facility, with 21-month-old Nicholas Dominici and a 2-year-old boy being given multiple doses of the overdose-reversing drug Narcan, authorities shared. Sadly, Nicholas passed away at Montefiore Hospital.

A neighbor who spoke with PIX 11 said she seen a woman come running out of the building screaming, “My kids are dead. The kids are dead. Another lady came out holding a baby. The baby was unresponsive. I just feel so sad for the kids.”

According to CBS News, the fire department has ruled out carbon monoxide poisoning as the cause of the tragedy. During a midnight press conference, Mayor Eric Adams stated the children had “come in contact with an opioid.” At the same briefing, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny confirmed the victims showed “symptoms of opioid exposure.”

Mayor Eric Adams said he haas since spoken to the mother and father who lost their baby boy.

“To see the pain they are experiencing is something that all of us New Yorkers are experiencing and all of us that are parents,” the Mayor said at the early Saturday press conference.

As of right now, a criminal investigation into the tragedy remains ongoing.
