Singer El Debarge found himself if cuffs last night following a run-in with law enforcement.
According to TMZ, the “Rhythm of the Night” artist was stopped by cops at a Burbank gas station after they noticed he had expired tags. From there, they spotted an expandable metal baton in plain sight in his vehicle. Since it’s illegal, cops continued to search his vehicle and came across pepper spray and suspected narcotics, per the outlet.
Clearly, it just wasn’t his night because, in addition to all of that, they also found out DeBarge didn’t have a valid driver’s license. As a result of their alleged findings, the singer was arrested and booked on several charges including possession of a leaded cane or baton, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia, TMZ notes. Furthermore, law enforcement reportedly told the site that they believe the narcotic is heroin…

So far, DeBarge nor his team have spoken out to deny or clarify these reports. However, what is known is that he posted $25K bond and is due back in court in March.

DeBarge spent 13 months in a California prison on drug charges before his release in January 2009. His incarceration helped him end a two-decade addiction to both heroin and crack.
He previously opened up about his 22-year drug addiction. He even talked about the time he almost relapsed following another two-year prison stint and said it was rapper 50-Cent and fellow singer Babyface who stepped in and saved him.
“I had my own intervention, I felt like I was about to go and pick up some drugs again. I could almost feel the taste in my mouth. When I was busy, when I was on the road doing things, I just didn’t have that taste…didn’t have that sensation,” he said during an old interview with V103 in Atlanta. “Once you sit down and you get some time with yourself, then you know who you REALLY are.”
He continued,
“So I called 50 Cent up and I called Babyface up and I said ‘You guys gotta help me man.’ And 50 came to my rescue, he took me over to Babyface, who met me over at Interscope and they sent me to a place called the Harbor House in Jackson, MS. They said get out of L.A. I was there for 6 weeks. […] That’s another reason why you didn’t hear from me, I was in a treatment center.”
