A new video analysis from The Washington Post shows federal agents in Minneapolis securing Alex Pretti‘s handgun before fatally shooting him in the ICE-related incident on Saturday (January 24).

Alex Pretti Fatally Shot By Federal Agents In Minneapolis
As we previously shared, Pretti was a 37-year-old ICU nurse who served veterans. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison confirmed his identity after federal agents fatally shot him just before 9 a.m. following a heated confrontation between federal agents and protestors during the Donald Trump administration’s latest ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) crackdowns.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shared on social media that federal officers were conducting an operation when they approached by an armed Minneapolis resident, Pretti. DHS alleged Pretti violently resisted efforts to disarm him, resulting in shots being fired. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said he believes more than one federal agent fired shots at Pretti.
Additionally, Chief O’Hara said local officials believe Pretti was a lawful gun owner with a permit to carry. Furthermore, Pretti’s family members confirmed to The Associated Press that he owned a handgun and a concealed carry permit in Minnesota.
Pretti, who was born in Illinois, does not appear to have a serious criminal history, aside from two traffic violations. His family continued to tell the AP that before Saturday’s fatal shooting, he was never involved in any interactions with law enforcement beyond his traffic tickets.

According to a video analysis performed by The Washington Post, a federal agent approached Pretti empty-handed. The agent then removes the gun from Pretti’s waistband. Less than a second later, federal agents fatally shoot Pretti, firing what appears to be about 10 shots. It remains unclear from the video if other agents realized another agent disarmed Pretti before shots fired.
However, as we previously shared, Pretti never withdrew his weapon and kept it safely concealed and secured the entire time he protested and interacted with federal agents. The analysis calls into question the Donald Trump administration’s claims that Pretti assaulted officers while carrying a weapon, implying he was a threat.
