Prosecutors in Lake County, Illinois, are pushing for TikToker Tea Tyme—real name Tynesha McCarty-Wroten—to remain behind bars as she awaits trial, arguing that her release would pose a serious threat to the public.
According to TMZ, the Lake County State Attorney’s Office filed new court documents on Friday outlining the disturbing details surrounding the November incident that left a 59-year-old pedestrian, Darren Lucas, dead. Prosecutors stated in the filing that a pretrial release is dangerous and her alleged conduct poses a risk to drivers and pedestrians.

TikToker Allegedly Livestreamed Fatal Crash While Driving With Grandson in Car
As previously reported, Tea Tyme was livestreaming to her followers when the fatal crash occurred. At least 14 viewers were watching as she allegedly ran a red light and struck Lucas, who was crossing the street at the time.
Authorities say that after the collision, McCarty-Wroten continued driving, even though her 7-year-old grandson was in the backseat.
Officers later confirmed that she did not have alcohol in her system, but prosecutors argue that her reckless use of a phone while driving led to Lucas’s death and shows a “pattern of dangerous disregard for public safety.”
Prosecutors Cite Past DUI and Suspended License
In their filing, prosecutors also referenced Tea Tyme’s criminal history, including a previous DUI arrest and allegations that she drove with a suspended license in the past.
They argue that this record demonstrates a pattern of reckless behavior, and say releasing her before trial would endanger the community.
McCarty-Wroten was arrested Tuesday and charged with two felonies:
- Reckless homicide, and
- Aggravated use of a communication device resulting in death.
