Savannah Guthrie Says She Deeply Regrets Asking Khloé Kardashian About Paternity Rumor

“I Was So Embarrassed”: Savannah Guthrie Regrets That O.J. Simpson Question to Khloé Kardashian, Years Later

In a rare moment of vulnerability on live TV, Today show anchor Savannah Guthrie took a beat to reflect on one of the most uncomfortable questions she’s ever had to ask…and the deep regret that followed.

It happened during Monday’s episode of Today when a curious audience member asked Guthrie if she had any career regrets. Without hesitation, she brought up a moment from 2012 that’s clearly still weighing on her: an interview with Khloé Kardashian where producers pushed her to go there; that “dishy question” about O.J. Simpson and the paternity rumors that have followed Khloé for decades.

“I asked Khloé Kardashian, like, 10 seconds before we were going to break about the rumors that her father wasn’t her father,” Guthrie confessed, admitting she intentionally waited until the last second to throw it in. “I was so embarrassed.”

To be clear, Guthrie was referencing the long-running and widely debunked conspiracy theory that O.J. Simpson…not the late Robert Kardashian Sr…. is Khloé’s biological father.

The theory stems from Kardashian Sr.’s close friendship with Simpson during the infamous ’90s murder trial, and the fact that Khloé’s appearance differs slightly from her sisters’. But it’s all speculation, and over the years, Khloé has made it clear: she’s tired of it.

Back in the day, Khloé even considered taking a paternity test: a storyline that briefly unfolded on Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Though producers leaned into the narrative for ratings, Khloé was clearly conflicted about it. “I don’t need someone to tell me who my father is,” she said at the time. “I’ve had the love of my father my entire life.”

Despite how awkward that 2012 interview must’ve been, Guthrie had nothing but praise for how Khloé handled it.

“She was like, ‘Ah, nothing to it,’” she recalled. “She was a class act.”

And now, more than a decade later, Khloé is still showing the same grace.

After Guthrie’s on-air moment went viral, the reality star responded via Instagram on Tuesday, commenting on a post about the clip.

“She’s a doll!” Khloé wrote. “It takes a big person to take accountability and I just love her! ❤❤❤ 👑👑👑👑

It’s a moment that says a lot about growth — on both sides. In an industry where headlines come fast and messy, it’s rare to see both the asker and the asked come away with mutual respect. Even when the questions hit a little too close to home.

In Guthrie’s case, she owned it. And Khloé? She forgave it.

That’s real grown woman energy on both sides.
