The first film earned a whopping $83 million domestically, a hefty sum for a project with a modest budget – reportedly in the $7 million range.

J. Michael Finley once again plays Bart Millard in the sequel alongside returning cast members Dennis Quaid and Trace Adkins. Quaid’s character, an abusive father redeemed by faith, will likely be seen via flashbacks.

Here’s what to expect from the film, set for a Feb. 20 release date.

Synopsis: After the breakout success of I Can Only Imagine, MercyMe’s Bart Millard is living the dream—sold-out arenas, a devoted fanbase, and a thriving career. But Bart’s world begins to shift under the weight of devastating challenges, including a life-changing diagnosis for his young son, Sam.

“I never dreamed there was more story to tell—until we heard the story behind MercyMe’s hit ‘Even If. ’Learning how Tim Timmons and Bart Millard co-wrote that song out of deep, lived-faith moved us to tears; the honesty and hope woven through each of their journeys is undeniable. Brent and I knew immediately that I Can Only Imagine truly deserved a sequel,” co-director Andrew Erwin said in a statement.
