Former Houston Appointee Sparks Outrage With Viral Camp Mystic TikTok
Recent comments made by a former Houston city board appointee have stirred up major backlash and now Mayor John Whitmire is stepping in with a public response.
In case you missed it, Sade Perkins, a former member of the Houston Food Insecurity Board, went viral over the weekend after posting a TikTok about Camp Mystic — a Texas summer camp that was recently devastated by deadly floods.
In the now-viral clip, Perkins didn’t hold back. She called the camp “White-only, conservative [and] Christian.”
“I’m probably gonna get canceled for this. But Camp Mystic is a Whites-only girls Christian camp,” Perkins said. “They don’t even have a token Asian, they don’t have a token Black person — it is an all White, White-only conservative Christian camp. If you ain’t White, you ain’t right. You ain’t getting in, you ain’t going. Period.”
And she didn’t stop there. Perkins continued:
“It’s not to say that we don’t want the girls to be found — whatever girls that are missing — but you best believe, especially in today’s political climate, if this were a group of Hispanic girls… this would not be getting the type of coverage they’re getting.
No one would give a f–k.”
She also said:
“They want you to have sympathy for these people. They want you to get out of your bed and come out of your home and go find these people and donate your money. Meanwhile, they’re deporting your family members. Meanwhile, they’re setting up concentration camps and prisons for your family members”.
And I need y’all to keep that in mind before you put on your rain boots and go find these little girls.”
Camp Mystic Flooding Update: At Least 100 Dead, Many Still Missing
As we previously reported, at least 100 people — many of them children — have been confirmed dead following the catastrophic flooding across Texas. Among the missing are at least 10 campers from Camp Mystic. Families are still desperately searching for answers as the tragedy continues to unfold.
Camp Mystic, located in Hunt, Texas, was hit especially hard. The summer camp, which caters primarily to girls, was caught off guard when waters rose rapidly early in the morning on July 4. Parents, community members, and volunteers have since joined the search and rescue efforts.

Mayor Whitmire Responds to Perkins: “Deeply Inappropriate”
Mayor John Whitmire didn’t waste time distancing his administration from Perkins. In a firm statement, his office confirmed she will not be reappointed and called her remarks completely out of line.
“The comments shared on social media are deeply inappropriate and have no place in a decent society — especially as families grieve the confirmed deaths and the ongoing search for the missing,” the statement read. “Mayor John Whitmire will not reappoint her and is taking immediate steps to remove her permanently from the board.”
Perkins has responded to the Mayor’s announcement, slamming him and claims that she will not be rehired for her job. Click here to see what else she had to say.
