This Friday morning, an explosion occurred in East Los Angeles, killing three Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies.
According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the blast happened at 1060 N. Eastern Ave. at about 7:30 a.m. At this time, the identities of the victims have not been disclosed yet, but it is confirmed that those involved were deputies.
As of now, the cause of the explosion has not been shared. However, reports say that the Los Angeles Police Department’s bomb squad was on the scene.
Reactions From Officials:
In a statement, Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office said,
“The Governor has been briefed on the reported explosion at the LA County Sheriff’s Special Operations Bureau in East Los Angeles.
The Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, @Cal_OES, is in contact with the Sheriff’s Department and closely monitoring the situation, and has offered full state assistance. Emergency officials will provide updates as more information becomes available.”
Meanwhile, Mayor Karen Bass added,
“The City of L.A. is supporting the @LASDHQ through this horrific incident in Monterey Park. LAFD/ATF arson investigators and members of the LAPD bomb squad are assisting at the training facility.
The thoughts of all Angelenos are with all of those impacted by this blast.”
