Barack Obama Jokes Michelle Obama “Took Me Back” As They Laugh Off Divorce Rumors
Michelle Obama and her brother Craig Robinson have had all kinds of guests come through their podcast, IMO, but this week? They brought out the big dog: none other than forever President Barack Obama himself.
“She Took Me Back!” Barack Obama Gets Real About Marriage Rumors
While pulling up to support their family podcast, Barack didn’t shy away from the light-hearted jokes or the real talk—especially when it came to those divorce rumors folks been whispering about for months.
Right as things got started, Craig playfully asked, “Wait, you guys like each other?” Michelle hit back, laughing, “The rumor mill.” Then Barack chimed in with a classic: “She took me back! It was touch and go for a while.” Michelle didn’t let it slide though—“Now, don’t you start,” she warned with a smile, before Craig added, “It’s so nice to have you both in the same room.”
Michelle agreed and joked, “I know, because when we aren’t, folks think we’re divorced.”
Michelle also made it very clear, “There hasn’t been one moment in our marriage where I have thought about quitting my man. We’ve had some really hard times and we’ve had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures and I’ve become a better person because of the man I’m married to.”
I know that’s right!
Where Did The Divorce Rumors Come From?
The whispers of a possible split between Barack and Michelle Obama started picking up steam earlier this year, when the former First Lady was seen more often solo, especially during her press trips and appearances on motivational podcasts. Social media ran with it, and before long, folks were swearing they had “insider tea” on the couple calling it quits.
But truth is, it was just grown folks doing what grown folks do… pursuing their own passions, building legacy, and still holding it down behind the scenes.

Michelle’s addressed the rumors before. Earlier this year, she sat down on The Diary of a CEO with Steven Bartlett and opened up about what keeps their marriage strong.
“The beauty of my husband and our partnership is that neither one of us was really ever gonna quit at it, ’cause that’s not who we are,” she said. “And I know that about him. He knows that about me.”
Michelle and Barack’s Unbreakable Bond: From Chi-Town to The White House
The Obamas’ love story has never been about fairy tales—it’s about real work, commitment, and showing up. They tied the knot on October 3, 1992, in Chicago. Since then, they’ve built an empire not just rooted in politics, but in purpose and partnership.
Through eight years in the White House, raising two brilliant daughters, and navigating one of the most public lives imaginable, Barack and Michelle have stayed solid. And that didn’t happen by accident.
In her memoir Becoming, Michelle admitted that marriage takes effort, patience, and honesty—especially under pressure. She shared that there were seasons of tension and disconnection, but never a time when either of them was willing to walk away.
Now, post-presidency, they continue to evolve individually and as a couple, always supporting each other’s next chapter—whether it’s Michelle’s bestselling books and public speaking, or Barack’s foundation and global initiatives, it’s clear that they are solid than ever.
