MSNBC is canceling Joy Reid and Alex Wagner’s shows as the liberal network makes a major shakeup in programming.
According to Variety, two people familiar with the shakeup say the NBCUniversal-backed cable network will move the trio of Symone Sanders-Townsend, Alicia Menendez, and Michael Steele to its 7 p.m. weekday slot Tuesday through Friday. The sources add that the group on Mondays will lead two hours, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
After MSNBC’s programming shakeup with the above-mentioned trio, Joy Reid, who currently anchors a show in the 7 p.m. slot, will no longer be on the network.

Variety reports that Reid — who has become infamous for her anti-Donald Trump rhetoric and controversial moments — will host her last show, ‘The ReidOut,’ on MSNBC this week.
According to Fox News Digital, Joy Reid’s MSNBC show has recently struggled to garner viewers. The show has reportedly only averaged 973,000 total viewers during February 2025. This is compared to 1.3 million viewers during the same month in 2024, marking a 28% decline. Additionally, sources tell Fox News Digital that MSNBC’s new president, Rebecca Kutler, will announce additional programming changes across dayside, weekends, and primetime.

Alex Wagner MSNBC Show Canceled Along With Joy Reid’s
Meanwhile, Alex Wagner, who hosted a show on weeknights at 9 p.m., is also losing her show. This is the second programming shakeup for Wagner. She was previously bumped from hosting a primetime program when Rachel Maddow pivoted from hosting her show once a week to nightly for the first 100 days of the Trump administration.
Unlike Joy Reid, three sources tell Variety that Alex Wagner will remain with MSNBC as a correspondent, but she won’t be hosting her 9 p.m. program moving forward.

The three sources also say that Jen Psaki will take over at least one of the hours. Psaki, who’s now expected to receive more airtime, currently hosts ‘Inside with Jen Psaki.’ Sources also say that MSNBC is reportedly in talks with Eugene Daniels of Politico.
They’re also reportedly speaking with Melissa Murray, a law professor at New York University. Murray specializes in the regulation of sex, marriage, caregiving, and reproductive rights. Daniels and Murray are reportedly joining the network in unspecified capacities.
