Country artist Ingrid Andress found herself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. After a less-than-stellar performance of the national anthem at the 2024 Home Run Derby, Andress has come forward with an apology, revealing that she was under the influence and announcing her decision to seek help in rehab.
In case you missed it: the four-time Grammy nominee, faced a barrage of criticism for her rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner” at the Home Run Derby. Comparisons to Fergie’s infamous 2018 NBA All-Star Game performance flooded social media, with many dubbing it the “worst-ever rendition” of the national anthem. The timing couldn’t have been worse, as Andress had just announced the release of her new single, “Colorado 9.”
In a Tuesday statement shared on her social media platforms, Ingrid Andress admitted her mistake and took full responsibility for her performance. She confessed that she was under the influence of alcohol during the anthem: Rather than hiding behind excuses or deflecting blame, Andress said she’s going to get help that she needs: “I’m not gonna bullshit y’all, I was drunk last night. I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need.”
Ingrid Andress didn’t stop at acknowledging her personal shortcomings; she extended her apologies to Major League Baseball, the fans, and the country she holds dear. “That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition. I’ll let y’all know how rehab is I hear it’s super fun.”
There have been many celebrities who have sung the national anthem at various events. Some notable examples include the late Whitney Houston, who still holds the crown for the best to ever do it. Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood, and Demi Lovato are also among the list of artists who have performed the anthem.
