Scooter Braun, the music manager who is best known for his work with artists such as Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, has announced his retirement from the music industry after 23 years.

Braun posted a lengthy statement this Monday morning, expressing his gratitude for the incredible experiences he has had throughout his career. “23 years ago a 19 year old kid started managing an artist named Cato in Atlanta, GA and my journey began. Along the way I have had so many experiences I could never have dreamt of,” Braun began saying. “I have been blessed to have had a ‘Forrest Gump’-like life while witnessing and taking part in the journeys of some of the most extraordinarily talented people the world has ever seen. I’m constantly pinching myself and asking ‘how did I get here?’ And after 23 years this chapter as a music manager has come to an end.”

Braun specifically mentions Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, both of whom he started working with when they were young teenagers. He said, “To see them both come up to be the legends they are today will forever be one of my greatest honors. As we change our working relationships now, I will continue to root for them with the same passion that I did at each of their humble beginnings.” Braun also said he takes “great pride and honor” in their accomplishments together. The 42 year old went on to reveal that his decision to retire was motivated by his realization that he didn’t want to miss out on spending time with his children, Jagger, Levi, and Hart.

The sacrifices he was once willing to make for his career were no longer justifiable, and he felt it was time to assume a new role.

Despite retiring as a music manager, Braun will continue his career as the CEO of Hybe America, a role he took on in January 2023. He explained that he had been heading in this direction for the past two years, but it wasn’t until last summer that the new chapter became a reality.

While he won’t be overseeing clients anymore, Braun assured that he will always be available to consult with those he has worked with over the years.

“This chapter has come to an end. But the great Berry Gordy once told me ‘young man, it never ends the way you wanted, but it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.’ That wisdom has proven to be correct.”
