Amanda Stamper, the stepmother of six severely abused children, was sentenced to seven to 18 years in prison for failing to intervene and protect the children in a heartbreaking case that shocked the Las Vegas community. The sentencing came after police found the children home alone, with two of them locked in a dog cage, sparking outrage and calls for justice.

In a courtroom moment before her fate was decided, Stamper expressed remorse, acknowledging her failure to act sooner. “I’m embarrassed to be here. I know I should have done something sooner,” she said. “I do take full responsibility for it. I was not in the best situation either and I was scared.”

The harrowing incident unfolded in June of 2023 when Las Vegas Metro police discovered the children in distress, showing signs of abuse. The oldest child, just 11 years old, was among those locked in the dog cage. Body camera footage captured the emotional rescue by officers, shedding light on the extent of the trauma suffered by the children.

Stamper’s husband, Travis Doss, known as “Trap Montana,” faces a litany of charges related to the abuse of the children. Clark County Chief Deputy District Attorney Dena Rinetti detailed the horrific conditions the children endured, including one child being locked in a dog cage for five days and subjected to starvation, resulting in severe malnourishment.

Rinetti emphasized the lasting impact of Stamper’s actions and inactions on the children, stating, “Every single day the defendant failed to protect her six stepchildren. Her actions and her inactions will affect these children for the rest of their lives.”

Stamper pleaded guilty to multiple felony counts of child abuse, neglect, or endangerment, while Doss faces a multitude of charges, including child abuse, kidnapping, sex trafficking, and other felonies. Stamper, identified as a victim in the sex trafficking case, was portrayed by her defense attorney, Caesar Almase, as a victim of Doss’s physical and mental abuse.

The case highlights the importance of vigilance and intervention in cases of child abuse, highlighting the need for swift and decisive action to protect the most vulnerable members of society. As the community deals with the aftermath of this tragic incident, the hope is that justice will be served, and steps will be taken to prevent such atrocities from occurring in the future.
