It is directed by Jason Bergh, and The Greatest Love Story Never Told follows Jennifer Lopez as she attempts her most daring project yet: independently producing a new album and cinematic original that explore her twenty-year journey to self-love. Intimate and empowering, the documentary offers unflinching access to Jennifer’s most personal moments as she works hard to reclaim her narrative through the making of This Is Me…Now. From interviews with her inner circle, including producing partners and longtime collaborators, to candid home moments, this is a vulnerable portrait of an icon who put it all on the line and discovered a newfound determination in self-acceptance and love.

This Is Me… Now: A Love Story Review

A visual concert with a storyline we all may know but didn’t quite understand. “This Is Me…Now: A Love Story,” personally connects fans to superstar JLO and candidly revisits her past to show how it shaped her future. Two decades ago, Lopez faced profound heartbreak when her engagement to Oscar-winner Ben Affleck abruptly ended. Their extensively covered two-year courtship, often dubbed “Bennifer” by fans and the media, became a paparazzi spectacle, contributing to the dissolution of their romantic connection. Fans can get an intimate and personal interaction with the superstar in a never before seen cinematic experience.

Their reunion served as a muse for Jennifer Lopez, an unabashed romantic, as she delves into a reflective exploration of her life’s journey. This introspection unfolds through the notes and lyrics of a sequel album and an accompanying music video experience titled “This Is Me…Now: A Love Story.” Collaborating with director Dave Meyers and co-writer Matt Walton, who worked from a story by Lopez, Meyers, and Chris Shafer, she reimagines her romantic escapades into a fantastical, genre-defying mashup. This is the first time fans can really see into Jennifer’s heart, soul and understand the feeling behind the narratives that were told.

The story follows Lopez, portrayed as the Artist, who has multiple therapy sessions led by her Therapist, Fat Joe. These sessions connect seamlessly with music video vignettes. Celestial signs, embodied by the Zodiacal Counsel, featuring celebrities like Jane Fonda as a determined Sagittarius, Post Malone as a flirtatious Leo, and Keke Palmer as a sassy Scorpio, also intervene from the heavens, attempting to align Lopez’s life. Surrounding her are friends with titles like “The Cynic,” “The Fighter,” and “The Quiet One,” who, despite their labels, remain a somewhat generic collective. Amidst her tribulations, Rex Stone played by her love Ben Affleck embeds a delightfully eccentric performance under heavy prosthetics and a hilarious wig. There’s so many moments of laughter, intrigue and relatable sympathy, tied together with hit after hit. This is one of Lopez’s best work yet.

The story-driven cinematic journey is one of a kind and will set the tone for how music and music videos will be shared in the future.

“This Is Me…Now: A Love Story,” drops this Friday on Prime Video.
