Whew! “Real Housewives of Potomac” star Candiace Dillard has sparked a fashion debate by suggesting that global icon Beyoncé might be drawing inspiration from her castmate Karen Huger!
The speculation arose after Beyoncé’s show-stopping appearance at the 2024 Grammys, where she flaunted a Western-inspired Louis Vuitton ensemble that bore a striking resemblance to Huger’s signature style. During a recent interview with @PageSix Style, Dillard playfully addressed the trending topic, expressing her approval of the singer’s bold fashion choice.
However, she said, “OK, so Beyoncé, if you’re watching, we’re not mad if you were channeling Karen Huger,” Dillard remarked with a smile. She pointed out the uncanny similarities between Beyoncé’s outfit and Huger’s fashion preferences, particularly noting the white cowboy hat and the sparkling checkered design. Now as many know, Beyonce is really not the one to follow trends or copy other folks’ styles. To note, she was even honored with CFDA’s Fashion Icon of The Year award in 2016 for staying true to her unique fashion. Despite that, Dillard feels like the 42-year-old took a few notes out of Huger’s book. She said, “I want you to know that when I saw you at the Grammys sitting in your Louis Vuitton Western frock — it was very cute — I saw Karen Huger. It was very much, like, giving, platinum Karen and I loved it.”
Dillard didn’t stop there; she also drew attention to Beyoncé’s platinum blonde hair, which she likened to Huger’s own sleek and sophisticated hairstyle often seen on “RHOP.” She said, “I want you to know that when I saw you at the Grammys sitting in your Louis Vuitton Western frock — it was very cute — I saw Karen Huger,” she. “It was very much, like, giving, platinum Karen and I loved it.”
Furthermore, Dillard tried to point out that Beyonce is fan and active viewer of the show, pointing out the time when a scene may have garnered the superstar’s attention:
“Beyoncé, if you’re watching ‘Housewives’ … Do you remember my first season?” she says, speaking to the “Texas Hold ’Em” singer. “Season 3, we were in France and Ashley referred to Karen as a ‘broke Tina Knowles.’ So I feel like that was maybe the introduction to the Knowles-Carter family. Maybe Beyoncé, like, her ears perked up then.”
Dillard also noted that Beyoncé seemingly used Kenya Moore’s famous saying in her 2016 hit “Formation,” during which the former Destiny’s Child frontwoman sings, “I twirl on them haters.” Dillard added, “Kenya [Moore]’s iconic for the twirl.”
