Welp, Kanye West has once again stirred controversy with the release of his latest single, “Carnival,” from his upcoming album, Vultures. The song features collaborations with Rich the Kid and Ty Dolla $ign and includes lyrics where West compares himself to a range of artists and notable figures.

In “Carnival,” Kanye West boldly compares himself to R. Kelly , Bill Cosby, and Diddy , raising eyebrows and prompting discussions. As many are aware, R. Kelly is currently serving time in prison for sex trafficking and child pornography, while Bill Cosby faced a conviction for rape, which was later overturned. Diddy, on the other hand, has faced accusations of sexual assault by multiple women. West’s inclusion of these names in his lyrics raises questions about his intentions and the message he aims to convey.

Interestingly enough, another notable references in “Carnival” is Kanye West’s mention of Taylor Swift. He raps, “Now I’m Ye Kelly, b*tch/ Now I’m Bill Cosby, b*tch/ Now I’m Puff Daddy rich/ That’s Me Too rich,” he says. He continues: “I mean since Taylor Swift since I had a Rollie on the wrist/ I’m the new Jesus, b*tcg/ I turned water into Kris/ This for what they did to Chris/ They can’t do sh*t with this.”

Of course, mentioning T-Swift takes us back to the infamous incident at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009 when West interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech, sparking a long-standing feud between the two artists. The lyrics in the new track suggest that West still holds onto the controversy and its aftermath, using it as a point of comparison in his self-expression.

In addition to Carnival, other songs on Kanye West’s new album, Vultures Volume 1, also tackle the artist’s previous antisemitism controversy. In the song “The King,” West defiantly addresses the accusations, proclaiming, “And I’m still crazy, bipolar, antisemite… and I’m still the king.” This bold statement demonstrates West’s refusal to back down or shy away from controversial topics, as he did in his previously released title track.

The lyrics of “Carnival” were revealed during a live performance at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, on February 8, 2024. The performance, which was live-streamed online, featured collaborations with Travis Scott, Lil Baby, Quavo, Freddie Gibbs, Chris Brown, Timbaland, and Charlie Wilson. Notably, Playboi Carti, YG, and West’s own daughter, North West, made appearances on stage. However, the event ended abruptly due to reported “venue restrictions.”

When Is The Album Officially Dropping?

Despite the anticipation surrounding Vultures Volume 1, the album’s release on February 9 did not materialize as expected. As of now, the album has yet to appear on streaming platforms, leaving fans eagerly awaiting its arrival. Only the single “Talking / Once Again,” featuring North West, has been released in advance.
