Sofia Vergara’s latest role as the late Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco in Netflix’s “Griselda” has sparked controversy. The son of the real-life “Cocaine Godmother,” Michael Corleone Blanco, has expressed his disappointment and labeled the portrayal of his mother in the series as “disrespectful.”

In a new interview with the U.K’s Daily Mail , Michael further shares his concerns about the depiction of his mother’s appearance and called for more respect and consultation with the family. While speaking with the outlet, Michael Blanco explained he was specifically disappointment with the series for portraying his mother as “ugly.” Sofia Vergara underwent a two-hour transformation using prosthetics to portray Griselda Blanco. However, Michael believes that his mother was a beautiful woman and that the show’s depiction is disrespectful. He emphasizes that people should not judge his mother solely based on her mug shots but should instead read his book to understand the true nature of his mother’s beauty.

“My mother was a beautiful woman, and it’s crazy that a lot of people say, ‘No, you’ve got to look more like a drug addict’… The fact that they called her ‘ugly,’ that really offends me. People see the mug shots and just go from that, but when you read my book, you’ll see that my mother was called the porcelain doll in her youth,” he said before adding,

“All I have to say is that if my mother was alive, she wouldn’t have got away with it,” he noted, referring to Vergara. “No matter what, you need to respect my mother enough to seek the consultation of [her] youngest son – her best friend who visited her five times a week during her… incarceration.”
