Oop! Presidential candidate Donald Trump is shading his presidential primary rival Nikki Haley and ruling her out as vice president. He says he “probably” won’t be choosing her because she isn’t fit.

On Friday (January 19), Trump held a rally in Concord, New Hampshire, where he made comments about his presidential promises and comments about his rivals, including Haley — whom the former president appointed as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations during his term in the Oval Office.
During his rally, Trump said, “She is OK, but she is not presidential timber. And when I say that, that probably means she is not going to be chosen as the vice president.” Trump continued to admit that he did not have any faith in the former U.N. Ambassador and her ability to handle all of the job tasks as a VP, like dealing with the tough negotiations with leaders of rival countries.
He added, “I know her very well. She’s not tough enough. She’s not smart enough. And she wasn’t respected enough. She cannot do this job. She’s not going to be able to deal with President Xi. She’s not going to be able to deal with Putin.”
Trump continued to make cryptic remarks after his “presidential timber” comment, noting that since he said such a critical comment on Haley’s character he couldn’t take anything back. He teased, “When you say certain things, it sort of takes them out of play, right? I can’t say, ‘She’s not of the timber to be the vice president’ and then say, ‘Ladies and gentleman, I’m proud to announce that I’ve picked.’”
Despite Donald Trump’s criticism of Nikki Haley and admission that he has no plans to make her his running mate, she ironically made similar comments on the same day. While making a stop at a diner in Amherst, New Hampshire, ahead of the state primary, Haley removed herself from any vice president considerations. She said, “I don’t want to be anybody’s vice president. That is off the table. I have always said that. That is a game they play that I’m not going to play. I don’t want to be vice president.”
Elsewhere, Elise Stefanik, the No. 4 House Republican who has been floated as a potential running mate for Donald Trump, echoed the former president’s comments about Nikki Haley not being such a great fit as a VP candidate.
According to The New York Times, on Saturday (January 20), New York Representative Elise Stefanik claimed Nikki Haley would be a “nonstarter” as Donald Trump’s running mate. During a stop at Trump’s Manchester campaign headquarters, Stefanik said, “I’ll tell you what’s unacceptable. Nikki Haley has been disloyal to President Trump. She has been disloyal to the American people. On the issues related to election integrity, Nikki Haley was stealing Democrat[ic] talking points.”
Additionally, at the Poor Boy’s Diner in Londonderry, The Times reported that Stefanik called Haley a “nonstarter due to the former governor’s attacks against Trump during the GOP campaign.
