Donald Trump Condolences Iowa Voters Deadly Perry High School Incident

Former President Donald Trump is catching some heat after his latest campaign event in Iowa. While attempting to send his condolences to Iowa voters following the recent deadly incident at Perry High School, he ended up telling folks, “We have to get over it.”

As we previously shared, a devastating incident rocked the entire Perry High School community on Thursday (January 4). It was the first day back to school after winter break when local law enforcement officials confirmed there was an active shooter on the school’s premises that morning. Police have since confirmed that the gunman was a 17-year-old senior named Dylan Butler, who was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Sadly, the incident resulted in the killing of a sixth grader and at least five others injured. Among those injured is the school’s 56-year-old principal. Upon securing the school grounds, local authorities found an improvised explosive device, which they disposed of, and Butler’s weapons: a shotgun and a small-caliber handgun. Local police have since begun working diligently with the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to investigate and find a motive.

Before opening fire around 7:37 a.m., law enforcement officials said Butler had posted videos to social media, which several students were sharing. One video shared on TikTok featured him facing the camera in front of a blue duffel bag with the caption, “Now we wait.”

One day following the shooting, Donald Trump held a campaign rally in Sioux Center, Iowa, where he addressed the violence and offered his “deepest sympathies” to the victims, their families, and the community.

On Friday (January 5), Trump said, “To the entire community, we love you, we pray for you, and we ask God to heal and comfort, really, the whole state. The pain that you have is very unique to your state. We’re really with you as much as anybody can be. It’s a very terrible thing that happened, and it’s just horrible to see that happening. It’s just horrible. So surprising to see it here.”

However, at the same time, the 2024 presidential candidate who is facing several indictments across the country, also told his Iowa voters that they will “have to get over it.”

Pivoting from sending his condolences, Trump sucked his teeth and told the crowd, “But, we have to get over it. We have to move forward. We have to move forward. But to the relatives, and to all of the people that are so devastated right now, to a point they can’t breathe, they can’t live, we are with you all the way. We’re with you and we love you and cherish you.”
