While speaking with Rolling Stone for a exclusive interview, SZA opened up about her dating life. During the conversation SZA spoke about her previous partner who she was formerly engaged to.
According to the report, SZA didn’t want to share the identity of her ex fiancé but she did say he’s a fashion designer who doesn’t post much on social media. The two split about five or six years ago and dated for a total of 11 years and were engaged for five. Sza says she was really young when her and the mystery man began dating. “I was fresh from high school,” she told the news outlet. Sza then goes on to say how she tends to find herself always being in a long term relationship. “I hate being a long-term b*tch,” SZA adds. While speaking on the topic of dating she spoke about how she has casually dated in the past and brought up how she used to date Drake.
As we all know the internet was shocked when Drake revealed that he used to date the R&B singer back in the day. He shared the information through a song with 21 Savage that was titled, “Mr. Right Now.” In the song, Drake said they dated back in 08 and in this new interview Sza does confirm that she was really young at the time. “It wasn’t hot and heavy or anything. It was like youth vibes. It was so childish.”
SZA says she spent her youth, “around a n*gga, up under a n*gga, trying to get up under a n*gga, like, needing that constant validation, companionship, like scared to be by myself and sh*t,” but now she believes she won’t be able to get into another relationship while she’s in her prime.
“I feel like I have more to offer than the way I look and my energy, but it’s like, I’m human, that shit is all-encompassing,” she reasons. “I want to stunt like me when I meet the person I envision me being with. I envision them falling in love with me the way I am. But I guess it’s like I have to release that idea. Maybe it’s because I don’t know if I’ll like the way I am later?”
As we previously reported, in the same interview Sza also blasted folks who believe speaking about her insecurities is apart of her brand. “That’s a good old misconception,” she says. “People be like, ‘Insecurity is her brand.’ It’s like, ‘No, b*tch, I’m honest with how I feel about myself, but if I catch you saying that, it’s going to be different. I’ll still beat your a** over disrespecting me.’ ”
