So sad! Another young basketball players has passed away. According to PEOPLE, Reggie Chaney who played for the University of Houston and helped his team get to the NCAA final four last year has unexpectedly died at the age of 23.
“We are heartbroken by the passing of forward Reggie Chaney,” the University of Houston Men’s Basketball team wrote in a post on Twitter, which is known as “X.” The statement continued saying that Chaney will be “deeply missed by all that knew him and loved him.” Information about his cause of death has not been revealed at the moment.

Supporters have created a gofundme for the young basketball star to try and cover the funeral expenses. In the description of the fundraiser it reads: “Reggie Chaney was a force both on the court and off. He was born on September 6, 1999, and left this world unexpectedly on August 21, 2023. This GoFundMe was created with the permission of his mother, Mikki, to help with unplanned expenses that no mother should have to worry about in this time of unimaginable grief.” Chaney was also named the American Athletic Conference’s sixth man of the year in his final season.
Its sad to see these young players passing away at such a young age. As we previously shared, So sad! Caleb White who is one of the top high school basketball players in the country passed away a few weeks ago after collapsing during a workout at practice.

Caleb White was a star basketball player at Pinson Valley high school. Pinson mayor, Joe Cochran released a statement about his death in a social media post Thursday night. “No words can be gathered to provide comfort to a family and community experiencing the loss of young life,” the statement attributed to Cochran on the city’s Facebook page saying, “Please lift Caleb’s family and friends along with the entire PVHS community in prayer for the hours, weeks, months and years ahead. I was honored to know Caleb personally and loved the spirit he carried. Life is fleeting, enjoy every day as the treasure it is, I know Caleb did.”
Charlette Varnadoe White, Caleb’s mother, also released a statement. “Caleb was loved by so many,” his mother said. “Not only was Caleb a great athlete, he was a great kid. We have received an outpouring of support from the community, his high school and AAU coaches, the Administrative staff at Pinson Valley, the colleges that have recruited or shown interest in him even his barber! We are processing this tragedy as best we can.”
