Trinidad James Says Gunna Saved Male Hip-Hop For The Summer: If He Didn't Have A RICO Case, He'd Have The Clubs Upside Down

#Socialites, do you agree? While social media claims Summer 2023 was “boring” in terms of having hits to play in the club and in the streets, Trinidad James says that’s cap because Gunna saved male Hip-Hop for the summer. He also says that if he “didn’t have a RICO case, he’d have the clubs upside down.”

Although a lot of people believe Gunna’s career was going to be over after he copped a plea in the Georgia RICO case against the YSL gang, Trinidad James is rooting for him, claiming he saved male Hip-Hop this summer. As we’ve been reporting, Gunna, full name Sergio Kitchens, was named in a Fulton County indictment, along with Atlanta rapper Young Thug, last year in May 2022.

After taking an Alford plea deal in the YSL racketeering case, Gunna was released from jail on December 14, 2022. Upon copping his plea and being released, the rapper faced tons of backlash and claims of being a snitch.

The claims were so bad that his lawyer had continuously stated that his client was NOT cooperating in the case and is NOT a snitch. Gunna’s co-lead defense counsel Steve Sadow released a statement pertaining to an article posted by Jewel Wicker for Okayplayer.

Sadow said, “After reading Ms. Wicker’s outstanding, insightful article, I am obliged to say for the record one more time: Gunna has never been interviewed by or cooperated with law enforcement or prosecutors in the RICO case. Nor have his attorneys proffered information on his behalf. What was said at his Alford plea hearing was solely to resolve his own case. It cannot be used by the prosecution against Young Thug or any defendant.”

Despite his attorney trying to defend him from the snitch claims, the accusations still remain, but it hasn’t stopped Gunna from releasing new music, in fact a whole album called ‘A Gift & A Curse,’ which dropped in June.

Weighing in on where Gunna’s success lies in the Hip-Hop game and how unboring Summer 2023 has actually been, fellow rapper Trinidad James took to his Instagram and gave Gunna his props while defending him against critics. Sharing a photo of Gunna’s album cover art and playing the song “rodeo dr,” the “All Gold Everything” rapper said Gunna saved Hip-Hop.

He simply wrote, “Please Stop Saying The Summer Was Boring. That’s a Lie you wanna make true. Gunna Saved It for Male Hip Hop. God Don’t Make Mistakes.”

In the comments, one person fired back, “It got streams, BUT it didn’t hit the clubs like a proper summer hit should.” Replying back, James said, “That’s personal choice. Some albums are meant for the whip and house. Some songs are meant for the club. If there is No RICO case involved, 2 songs off his album would have the CLUB UPSIDE DOWN. But perception is Perception.”

Another critic wrote, “Gunna was mild. Rylo Rodriguez saved the summer fasho.” James replied, “Rylo was the streets and the club. Streaming business work different. It’s cultural impact and then there’s Major Label Push.”
