As we previously reported, on Friday (August 4), Kai Cenat held a giveaway at New York City’s Union Square, which ended up sparking mayhem, riots and leading several arrests, including his own. As the 21-year-old streamer attempted to give out handfuls of PlayStation 5s, things quickly went left as the crowd became so big and unruly.
The New York Police Department ended up making 65 arrests and 30 of them were juveniles. Speaking in a briefing on Friday evening, New York City Police Department Chief Jeffrey Maddrey confirmed that the event was “unpermitted” and “not sanctioned,” and also resulted in a 17-year-old being hospitalized.
He went on to reveal that Cenat would be charged with at least two counts of inciting a riot and unlawful assembly. He was issued a desk appearance ticket for the charges; which specifically included a felony charge of inciting a riot in the first degree causing public injury or damage. After being arrested, Cenat was released from custody early Saturday morning.

Taking to his official account on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter, rapper NLE Choppa reacted to a clip of NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey announcing that Kai Cenat would be charged in the NYC giveaway madness.
NLE said, “Y’all don’t even charge the KKK when they do that negative sh*t, but charge a successful Black man for giving back? The system is so designed for us to fail, it don’t make sense!” He then followed up the tweet with another and said, “I ain’t saying what he did was done correctly. Of course it’s something he could’ve done better, but his intentions were pure. That’s all that matters. He wanted to help, give back, inspire, and most importantly, spread love.”

Also speaking out in support of Kai not being charged was Sukihana. Taking to her Instagram Story, she called out NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey, stating, “As a Black man, you should be ashamed for doing this to him.”
Sukihana then went on her own account on X and said, “Kai having so much influence and power in the community shouldn’t be a reason to put him in jail. Y’all need HIS HELP. Y’all don’t even have that power. NYC tripping. Help him with his greatness and go focus on the real criminals.”
