Footage of Joe Biden speaking to survivors of the Maui wildfires on Monday. During his speech he explained to folks how he can relate to what they’re going through because he and First Lady Jill Biden lost their home to a fire in 2004.
According to the Associated Press, the house fire Biden is speaking on was described as “a small fire that was contained to the kitchen,” with the Delaware fire chief indicating that it was under control in 20 minutes. “I don’t want to compare difficulties, but we have a little sense, Jill and I, what it’s like to lose a home,” he said. “To make a long story short, I almost lost my wife, my ’67 Corvette, and my cat,” Biden said. “But all kidding aside, I watched the firefighters, the way they responded.” After Biden’s comments folks on Twitter quickly started to slam him. “Joe Biden lying, again, saying he knows what it’s like to lose a home, almost lose a cat, or something – laughing as he compares his small kitchen fire with people whose children were literally turned into piles of ash. Fuck Joe Biden,” one twitter user shared.
With another person weighing in saying, “Joe Biden compares a massive destructive fire where the death toll is at 114+ but where 1000s are missing, & where people either lost everything or are getting evicted, to a small kitchen fire in one of his many houses. This after sending billions to Ukraine & leaving Hawaii largely without the needed help. He just can’t help himself.”
As we previously reported, the death total in the Maui wildfires are now 110. Hawaii governor, Josh Green said in news conference Wednesday where officials faced a lot of backlash and some heated questions about the country’s actions as wildfire swept across the island last week, sending people scrambling for safety.

“Jill and I are here to grieve with you, but also want you to know, the entire country is here for you,” Biden said later, wearing a green and yellow lei at an event with families and community members impacted by the fires. “We’re going to get it done for you. But get it done the way you want it done.”
Among the signs residents held up along Biden’s route were pleas for relief. Another, held by a child, said “Defend Maui/ Protect our Aina,” using the Hawaiian word for “land.”
