Donald Trump is not a happy camper. As we previously reported, on Tuesday, a judge found former President Donald Trump liable for sexually abusing writer E. Jean Carroll in a Manhattan department store in the 1990s but not liable for her alleged rape. As a result of yesterday’s verdict, the jury awarded her $5 million in damages for her battery and defamation claims.

After the jury deliberated for about three hours, it awarded Carroll just over $2 million for the battery claim and just under $3 million for the defamation claims. Carroll said in a statement Tuesday, “I filed this lawsuit against Donald Trump to clear my name and to get my life back. Today, the world finally knows the truth.” Her lawyer Roberta Kaplan also said in a second statement, “No one is above the law, not even a former President of the United States. We are so thrilled that the jury agreed.”

Trump had also denied any wrongdoing and he maintained that he’s innocent in a new post on his platform , Truth Social. He said, “I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHO THIS WOMAN IS. THIS VERDICT IS A DISGRACE — A CONTINUATION OF THE GREATEST WITCH HUNT OF ALL TIME!” In a follow-up video message, Trump went off even more:

“WHAT ELSE CAN YOU EXPECT FROM A TRUMP HATING, CLINTON APPOINTED JUDGE, WHO WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO MAKE SURE THAT THE RESULT WAS AS NEGATIVE AS IT COULD POSSIBLY BE, SPEAKING TO, AND IN CONTROL OF, A JURY FROM AN ANTI-TRUMP AREA WHICH IS PROBABLY THE WORST PLACE IN THE U.S. FOR ME TO GET A FAIR ‘TRIAL’,” he posted and reiterated in his video rant.

More On This Case

Carroll, 79, claimed in a 2019 civil suit that Donald Trump, 76, had raped her in a fitting room at a New York City department store, most likely in 1996 — which the jury rejected. Trump cannot be prosecuted for the alleged rape of Carroll because the statute of limitations for such a crime has also long since passed. He was, however, found liable for sexual abuse. Jurors were also in favor of Carroll on her claim that the ex-president defamed her in a lengthy Oct. 12, 2022, Truth Social post claiming her accusations were a lie and a “hoax.” Despite what he believed, Carroll still came on top during court on Tuesday.

The is nowTrump’s latest legal “L.” The impeached president because the first former president to be criminally charged last month as he faced 34 counts of falsifying business records related to hush money payments made in his 2016 campaign. However, will all his legal problems, he still plans to run for President in the 2024 election. A spokesman for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign said of Tuesday’s verdict, “The Democratic Party’s never-ending witch-hunt of President Trump hit a new low today.”

“In jurisdictions wholly controlled by the Democratic Party our nation’s justice system is now compromised by extremist left-wing politics,” the spokesman said in a statement.
“Make no mistake, this entire bogus case is a political endeavor targeting President Trump because he is now an overwhelming front-runner to be once again elected President of the United States.”

Sen. John Cornyn, a Texas Republican, noted to reporters at the U.S. Capitol that while the jury verdict does not have any effect on Trump’s candidacy, “The fact is, I do not think he could win the presidency.”

“He’s got a solid supportive base, but you can’t win a general election with just your base,” Cornyn said, per NBC News. “So you have to appeal to a broader spectrum of people and he just never seems to try to do that. So to me, that’s the reason why I don’t think he can get elected.”
