This Saturday, King Charles III and Camilla, the queen consort, were officially crowned king and queen during a coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey. It was first coronation there since his mother’s, Queen Elizabeth II, back in 1953.
Led by eight horses as thousands of people cheering people lined the streets, Charles and Camilla began their procession toward the coronation from Buckingham Palace through Central London in a golden carriage. Around 200 members of the British military were part of the procession as well as over 1,000 other soldiers, sailors, and Royal Air Force personnel.
Prince Harry attended his father King Charles II’s coronation without his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, or their children. He also had no formal role during the ceremony and did not appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony with other members of the family. Despite that, he was spotted all smiles in the third row.
Of course, Prince William was also in attendance for the big day. He arrived at the historic event with wife Kate Middleton. The two wore formal robes and mantels for the historic occasion at the request of King Charles and Queen Camilla.
Notable stars like Katy Perry and Lionel Richie were also in attendance. US President Joe Biden did not attend but shared a tweet to congratulate King Charles and Queen Camilla. He said, “Congratulations to King Charles III and Queen Camilla on their Coronation. The enduring friendship between the U.S. and the U.K. is a source of strength for both our peoples. I am proud the First Lady is representing the United States for this historic occasion.”

More On King Charles
King Charles III, formerly known as The Prince of Wales, became King on the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II who died on 8 September 2022. With Charles officially being crowned, he takes his place on the throne and members of his direct family, including his sons Princes William and Harry, are now higher in the line of succession.
Now, although the big event went pretty smooth for the most part, London’s Metropolitan Police Service said it made dozens of arrests during King Charles III’s coronation.
“A total of 52 arrests have been made today for offences including affray, public order offences, breach of the peace and conspiracy to cause a public nuisance. All of these people remain in custody,” police said in a press release. “We continue to engage with organisers of a static demonstration taking place in Trafalgar Square, close to the junction with Whitehall,” it added.
