Diddy is setting the record straight! The business and music mogul took to Twitter again to clarify reports that stated he was still paying the price for sampling The Police’s song, “Every Breath You Take.”
As it was previously reported, an old clip of rocker Sting’s appearance on The Breakfast Club resurfaced online. In the clip, he recalls the time that the producer asked for permission to sample the single for his 1997 hit smash “I’ll Be Missing You” which was a tribute to the late Notorious B.I.G. However, Diddy requested it after it was released. During the interview, Sting was asked if was true that Diddy had to pay $2K a day for the rest of his life for missing the important legal step, to which he answers “yes.”
Nope. 5K a day. Love to my brother @OfficialSting! https://t.co/sHdjd0UZEy

Diddy then took to Twitter shortly after the clip continued to go viral and said, “Nope. 5K a day. Love to my brother @OfficialSting!” As wild and expensive as that sounds, Diddy shared another tweet this Friday to clarify that he was just joking when he made that comment. “I want y’all to understand I was joking! It’s called being Facetious! Me and @OfficialSting have been friends for a long time! He never charged me $3K or $5K a day for Missing You. He probably makes more than $5K a day from one of the biggest songs in history,” Diddy said.

More On Diddy And Biggie’s Relationshp
Christopher Wallace, professionally as the Notorious B.I.G., was murdered in a drive-by shooting in the early hours of March 9, 1997, in Los Angeles, California. He was just 24 years old.
Diddy previously discussed his inspiration to write the song for his good friend as he was contemplating quitting the rap game after hearing of the passing. However, he was motivated after hearing The Police song.
“I was ready to quit; I wasn’t gonna put out any more records. Then I was watching TV one day—you know, one of those times of despair where nobody is around, and you’re like crying on the floor,” he said via UniLad. “Then I just heard ‘Every Breath You Take’ by The Police. I just took it as a sign. Sometimes you just need that little bit of light to be able to express yourself.”
Just recently, he also reflected on their friendship in a tweet shared on the 26th anniversary of his death back in March.
“There will NEVER be another. The GREATEST RAPPER OF ALL TIME,” wrote Diddy. “Today we celebrate and honor you king. Love and miss you!!”
