The family of the 84-year-old white man accused of shooting a Black 16-year-old boy — has been speaking out against him to reveal his horrible past.

As we previously reported, Andrew Lester’s ex-wife Mary Clayton, recently spoke out and shared that he was prone to violence during their troubled 14-year marriage. She added that it “doesn’t surprise” her that he pulled a gun out on the Black teenager, identified as Ralph Yarl, when the child mistakenly showed up at his address.

Following her revelation, more family members are coming forward to share what they know about Lester. In an interview with CNN, Lester’s grandson, Klint Ludwig, told the outlet that “I believe he holds racist tendencies and beliefs,” adding that he was “disgusted” over the shooting. Ludwig continued, “Myself and my family stand with Ralph Yarl in seeking justice,” he added. “This is a horrible tragedy and it never should have happened.”

More On What Happened

Yarl told authorities he had mistakenly approached Mr Lester’s home last Thursday night to pick up his younger twin brothers.
After Ralph rang the doorbell, Mr Lester shot him twice – once in the forehead and once in the arm. To note, absolutely no words were exchanged before the homeowner opened fire with a .32 revolver, according to prosecutors.

So far, Lester has not denied shooting the boy. However, he Rolf authorities he believed he was protecting himself from a confrontation. Meanwhile, prosecutors came to the conclusion that that Ralph “did not cross the threshold” of Mr Lester’s home.

How Is Ralph Yarl Doing?

Cleo Nagbe, Yarl’s mother, spoke with “CBS Mornings” with Gayle King on and Tuesday shared more details about his recovery following the shooting that almost took his life.

“Ralph was shot on top of his left eye, in the left frontal lobe. Then he was shot again in the upper right arm,” Nagbe said. “He had the bullet for up to 12 hours before it was taken out. That injury is extensive. The residual effect of that injury is going to stay with him for quite a while.”

Despite that, Nagbe said her son’s spirits are high but mornings have been tough for him. “He is home, but I want to remind everybody that Ralph is home because he is surrounded by a team of medical professionals,” Nagbe said. “I am a nurse for almost 20 years. His aunt is a physical therapist. His uncle is a medical professional. That’s why he is home.”
