NBCUniversal CEO Leaves The Company After Having An 'Inappropriate Relationship' With A Woman: "I'm Truly Sorry"

NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell departed from his role immediately after it was revealed that he had an “inappropriate relationship” with a woman in the comany, parent company Comcast announced.

“Today is my last day as CEO of NBCUniversal. I had an inappropriate relationship with a woman in the company, which I deeply regret. I’m truly sorry I let my Comcast and NBCUniversal colleagues down, they are the most talented people in the business and the opportunity to work with them the last 19 years has been a privilege,” Shell said in a statement.

A company email was sent out to Shell’s team to inform them that they would have to report to Comcast President Mike Cavanagh from now on. “We are disappointed to share this news with you. We built this company on a culture of integrity. Nothing is more important than how we treat each other. You should count on your leaders to create a safe and respectful workplace. When our principles and policies are violated, we will always move quickly to take appropriate action, as we have done here,” Cavanagh and Comcast CEO Brian Roberts said in a separate statement.

According to ABC, Shell first was put into the role as CEO in 2020, , succeeding Steve Burke, who had served as CEO since 2011.

Before joining NBCUniversal, Shell was the Chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, where he oversaw the studio’s global operations and strategic direction. He was responsible for some of the biggest movie franchises in history, including Jurassic World, The Fast and the Furious, and Despicable Me.

Prior to his tenure at Universal, Shell worked at Fox Networks Group, where he held various leadership positions, including President of the Network’s Distribution Group and President of the Fox Cable Networks Group.

Shell is widely regarded as a seasoned executive with extensive experience in the media and entertainment industry. He is credited with leading NBCUniversal through a period of significant change and transformation, including the launch of its streaming service, Peacock.
