This Thursday morning, San Francisco police made an arrest in connection with the April 4 fatal stabbing of CashApp founder Bob Lee.

As of right now, police have not yet shared the identity of the suspect, but Mission Local reports that he was a fellow tech executive who lives in the Bay Area. While the motive for the apparent murder is currently unknown, law enforcement told the outlet that Lee and the suspect were driving together in San Francisco, in the early hours of April 4. The car was registered to the suspect, according to M.I. At some point, some sort of confrontation ensued in the car and continued after Lee left the vehicle.

Lee was then stabbed at least twice. The outlet notes that the knife has now been recovered near the area where Lee was fatally wounded.

San Francisco Supervisor Matt Dorsey appeared to have confirmed the reports in a Tweet Thursday. He said, “I’m grateful to @SFPD’s Homicide Detail and all the officers from @SFPDSouthern and elsewhere for their tireless work to bring Bob Lee’s killer to justice and for their arrest of a suspect this morning.”

Since his death, it has prompted several of Lee’s friends and associates, including Elon Musk, to call San Francisco’s approach to public safety into question.

“Very sorry to hear that. Many people I know have been severely assaulted. Violent crime in SF is horrific and even if attackers are caught, they are often released immediately. Is the city taking stronger action to incarcerate repeat violent offenders,” Elon Musk tweeted in reaction to Lee’s death.

UFC and MMA fighter Jake Shields also tweeted about Lee’s tragic death:

“I just found out my good friend was killed last night while walking [home] in San Francisco. He was in the “good” part of the city and appeared to have been targeted in a random mugging/attack. F*** San Francisco,” Sheilds said.

Meanwhile, Joshua Golbard, founder of cryptocurrency MobileCoin– which is one of the companies Lee was involved in remembered Lee in an emotional statement on Twitter where he also criticized the city for Lee’s death.

“As a lifelong Bay Area resident, I have more questions than answers tonight. I don’t know how to fix what’s wrong, but I know something isn’t working in our grey city,” Goldbard said.
