Emma Claiir, an influencer based in Australia, is reportedly losing brand deals after confessing about killing two cats during her childhood and joking about it during a podcast.

The disturbing confession was shared on the ‘Simply Chaotic’ podcast after co-host Kristy Jean asked the 28-year-old beauty influencer to share a personal secret. Claiir starts by saying she remembers swinging her family cat around and accidentally letting go of it. “Like, I was thinking it was just a stuffed toy. And I accidentally let go of it. My sister did not speak to me for months, and my mom was f**king fuming at me, and yeah, I killed it,” she explained.
Claiir said she also killed her best friend’s cat but believed it died of ‘fright’ after performing a similar act. “I just want to say, I’m giggling about it now, but this happened years and years and years [ago],” she added.

After the clip went viral, Claiir faced much backlash and had to clarify some facts in an Instagram story post. She reassured that both cats died from accidents and told her 106,000 followers to chill about the video clip.
“To the people offended by my story in today’s simply chaotic episode that I just shared … It happened 21 years ago. I was a small child … Accidents happen, and you all need to chill. I hope that you are not the same person you were at nine years old (I could have been even younger you know, haha), and I can confirm that after that accident, I have been the mother moth to multiple cats, including my baby Fred,”
Although she took the backlash lightly, several beauty brands dropped Claiir for her commentary and said they take animal cruelty very seriously. “We are deeply saddened by the events that have taken place regarding Emma Claiir. Lust Minerals does not condone animal cruelty of any kind. We stand by our values, our products are cruelty-free and are vegan certified,” said beauty brand Lust Minerals.
Fashion brand Princess Polly announced after learning about the video clip. It said it would drop Claiir as an ambassador because they have a “zero-tolerance stance on any form of animal abuse.” In response to being dropped from her multiple brand deals, Clairr posted a follow-up statement.
“I would like to jump on here and firstly apologize for the story mentioned in episode one of simply chaotic. I’m well aware that the story was not light humor and in fact very serious. It was not intended to come across the way that it did, as it was simply from a story from the past about an accident that was made as a little kid, but I can see how it has come across like that.
I have taken time to think about my actions and want to confirm that I do have empathy for the situation, and it’s not something I am proud of as it really hurt myself and my family 21 years ago.”
