Keyshia Cole is set to open up about her life like never before after signing on to executive produce and star in her upcoming biopic, “Keyshia Cole: This Is My Story.”

The film, which will air on Lifetime in June, will tackle some heavy-hitting parts of Cole’s life, including her rough upbringing in Oakland, California before she would eventually land a major record deal and become one of the best-selling R&B singers of the ‘00s. Outside of her personal struggles, however, “This Is My Story” will also tackle her relationship with her late mother, Frankie Lons, who passed away back in 2021 from an accidental overdose.

“This is a story of a daughter’s love for her mother and although my heart remains broken from her untimely passing I am honored to be sharing it with the world,” Cole said in a statement.

And while most people who have a biopic made about them would usually opt for an actor to play them, Cole says she hopes that starring as herself in the film, it will allow her to re-live those special moments and “process her loss in ways I did not expect,” in reference to her mother’s passing.

While Cole is no stranger to being on TV, having previously starred in multiple reality shows, including “The Way It Is” and “Keyshia & Daniel: Family First,” this time around, the singer will actually be making her acting debut in the Lifetime project, with Angelica Cheri penning the script while D’Angelsa Proctor and Manu Boyer serve as the film’s directors.

Cole is also said to be providing original music for the fil for a song titled “Forever Is A Thing.” The 41-year-old hasn’t released a full body of work since she dropped her seventh studio album, “11:11 Reset,” in 2017.

She went on to drop he rlatest single, “I Don’t Wanna Be In Love” two years ago, peaking at number 43 on Billboard’s Hip-Hip/R&B charts, but perhaps recording new material for her upcoming biopic will have inspired KC enough to consider a follow-up to her last album, which included the singles, “You” and “Incapable.”

Following her mother’s passing, Cole penned a sentimental and heartfelt message on her Instagram as she paid tribute to her parent following her shocking death.

“This is so hard man. Can’t really even find the words,” Cole started off by saying. “I honestly don’t even know how to feel. You can never prepare for something like this… Ever!”
