Ahead of Prime Video’s highly anticipated series SWARM which explores stan culture, mental health, and obsession, we had a chance to speak with the stars Chloe Bailey and Dominique Fishback, alongside Janine Nabers who co-created the show with Donald Glover.
When Swarm first hit social media, fans were quick to pinpoint that the show was about the extreme side of Beyoncé’s fan club the Beyhive, and how the stan culture can take it to extreme levels. However, after speaking to Nabers she shared that the idea came as they were filming the latest season of Atlanta and with Donald himself behung a part of the music industry, the concept of Swarm is not about one particular artist but anyone in the industry. However, Twitter has a mind of its own and is locked in on Bey being the inspo.
“Every episode deals with real news stories, real events, or internet rumors that have happened, and we have put our wonderful women in the center of those stories,” Nabers previously said.
In the series, Dominique Fishback stars as Dre, an obsessed, Houston-based fan who becomes increasingly violent for critics of her favorite R&B singer.
While speaking to Chloe Bailey, who plays Dre’s best friend Melissa in the show, she shares her experience with stan culture but doubles down on the importance of the series showcasing mental health. Chloe also gets candid about her own battle with mental health and feeling completely alone despite her bubbly personality coming out to the world, internally she was dealing with a lot, but her music aided her with it.
Swarm touches on important topics inside and outside the industry and it is definitely a one of a kid show. Stream Swarm now on Prime!
