Yasss! Rihanna & Tems Are Officially Oscar Nominees — Scores Nomination In Best Original Song Category For “Lift Me Up”

#Socialites, join us in congratulating Rihanna, Tems, Ryan Coogler, and Ludwig Göransson who have earned an Academy Award nomination! That’s right!

The nominees for the 2023 Oscars were announced this Tuesday morning and some of our favorite stars are up to snag an award! The group is nominated for Best Original Song “Lift Me Up” for Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: #WakandaForever!

“Lift Me Up,” was co-written by Tems with composer Ludwig Goransson and director Ryan Coogler. It’s a tribute to celebrate the legacy of actor Chadwick Boseman, who played King T’Challa in the original “Black Panther.” As we previously reported, Boseman died of colon cancer in 2020 at the age of 43.

While speaking to Variety last year when the song came out, the “Free Mind” singer explained to the outlet, “After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them,” said Tems. “Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor.”
