Former NBA star Amar’e Stoudemire was arrested on Saturday night on a count of misdemeanor battery after allegedly punching his daughter in the jaw and slapping her hard enough to draw blood, according to the Miami Herald. The athlete was arrested just after 10 pm at his Miami condo, with a police report claiming that Amar’e had gotten upset when his daughter apparently had an attitude towards her grandmother.
“When the daughter denied having such a tone with her grandmother, she said her father then responded with ‘You’re talking back again’ and punched her on the right side of her jaw,” the report asserted. Alexis and Amar’e share four children, two of which are girls. At the time of reporting, it remains unclear which daughter was allegedly hurt. “As a follow up, she said, he slapped her face, bloodying her nose and continued slapping her on the left side of her body.”
The daughter phoned her mother, Alexis, to tell her about the alleged volatile incident, but she was already aware that there had been some sort of dispute because Amar’e had texted her, too, saying she needed to pick up their daughter and that she was sad “because she received a whopping from him for being disrespectful and a liar.”
When police arrived, they noticed visible blood stains on the girl’s clothes, including her sweatpants, while Alexis later presented cops a series of photos that she received from her daughter while she was making her way to the property. In one of the snaps, blood can be seen running down her face while the daughter cries profusely.
The daughter later explained to police that she was at her dad’s condo at around 8 PM, when her grandmother called her name. When she responded by saying “What?” her father came inside her room and asked why she had an attitude, which prompted her to respond she was just answering back to her name being called.
Amar’e was then said to have told her she was talking back at him and allegedly punched her on the right side of her jaw. She claimed to have then been slapped, leading her to suffer from a bloody nose before several other slaps were followed on the left side of her body.
