Asia Womack,21, was playing a pick-up basketball game with the alleged shooter, Cameron Hogg,31, who reportedly shot her moments after he dropped off his kids and brother. Her family said the pair were friends, and he was a former James Madison High School athlete. Her mother, Andrea Womack, said the pair was very close and called her shooting “vicious.”

“She’s fed him, and he turned on her and killed her in a vicious way,” she said in an interview with Fox 4 News. Womack’s aunt, Juanita Smith, said justice needed to be served, as reported by PEOPLE.

Investigators reported after Hogg dropped off his children and sibling, he returned to the park and shot Womack five times. The family said Womack was a student at Texas A&M and received a scholarship for playing basketball. She played on her high school basketball team also.

“Asia loved basketball. She loved basketball to the point where she died doing what she loved.”

Social media reacted to the shooting and calls it senseless based on the alleged suspect’s bruised ego.

Womack’s tragic death saddened many users on Facebook and Twitter. Some said the shooter committed the crime because he lost to a girl and let his ego get in the way.
