Lil Durk is finding himself in more legal drama after promoters of a concert he was supposed to perform at in 2019 have filed a $350k lawsuit against him for being a no-show at the venue in Nassau. According to reports, the rapper was booked by Fresh Entertainment to perform in December of that year, and from what the court documents allege, Durk was already sent a $24,000 advanced payment ahead of the gig.
Well, Durk ended up having to bail on the concert at the last minute because, upon his arrival in the Bahamas, it was uncovered that he had a string of charges against him pertaining to an arrest stemming from an Atlanta shooting that occurred earlier in the year. He was therefore refused entry at border control.
Fans may recall, Durk was charged with a criminal attempt to commit murder, on top of aggravated assault and participation in criminal street gang activity in the February 2019 incident where a man was shot multiple times outside of The Varsity restaurant in Atlanta. And while the charges were dropped earlier this week, the promoters of the Nassau show say they spent hundreds of thousands of dollars promoting the event and never got their money back.
Furthermore, they claim that even though Durk was the one who had to cancel on the event, he has allegedly told them that if they want him to perform at another show, he’d have to pay them an extra $200,000, including his initial appearance fee — a request which the promoters were left outraged by.
Fresh Entertainment asserts that they checked in with Durk’s team before booking him for the concert to make sure he wouldn’t have any issues getting into the Bahamas, but they were assured that their client was perfectly fine to attend the concert and that he didn’t have any problems with the law that could have hindered him from taking to the stage.
Sources say that the promoters want to be recompensated for the damages Durk caused by his no-show, which includes the money spent on marketing, the actual concert itself, and promotion, on top of the fee they paid him ahead of time, which is estimated to be around $350,000 altogether.
Durk and his team have yet to respond to the lawsuit.
