Former Tennessee Teacher Charged With 24 Sex Crimes After She Posted ‘Inappropriate’ TikTok Videos Of Her Students

A former teacher in Tennessee has been charged with an astounding 24 sex crimes after posting inappropriate videos of her former students on TikTok. The charges against 23-year-old Taylor Cruze were issued last week by a grand jury in Smyrna, following an extensive police investigation at the John Colemon Elementary School that found her connected to a heap of felony crimes.

According to Rutherford County Schools spokesperson James Evans, via USA Today, Cruze, who lived in the city of Murfreesboro, was suspended without pay back on May 2 before she resigned from her position on May 22. Law enforcement officers would spend a lengthy investigation up until last month when Cruze, who was a fifth-grade first-year tutor, was arrested.

There was no mention of what the videos she posted on TikTok contained, but WSMV-TV claims she engaged in explicit communication and sexual contact with her students. Not to mention, she’s also been served with several counts, including exploitation of a minor, aggravated sex exploitation, solicitation of a minor, and rape of a child, just to name a few.

On the same day of her arrest, USA Today reports that Cruze was able to post her $100,000 bond, with her court date having been set for September 28. The school, according to Evans, has gone above and beyond in helping law enforcement acquire all the details they need to help further their investigation into the case.

So far, it remains unclear what the ages of Cruze’s alleged victims were, but they weren’t believed to have been older than 7 years old. TikTok had recently updated its Community Guidelines following an increased amount of sexualized content surfacing on the social media platform. In the first quarter of 2022 alone, the company said they removed 102 million videos containing what was deemed to have been inappropriate.

A Psychologist named Paul Sunseri told The Wall Street Journal that roughly 25 percent of female patients who visit clinics for their mental health have created some sort of sexually-derived content on TikTok. “For a young girl who’s developing her identity, to be swept up into a sexual world like that is hugely destructive,” Sunseri explained. “When teen girls are rewarded for their sexuality, they come to believe that their value is in how they look.”
