Desiigner seems to think that he and Iman Shumpert share a striking resemblance to one another — so much that they could even pass as brothers. The “Panda” rapper made the comment during a recent interview with VladTV, recalling how he called up his dad the first time he met Shumpert to find out whether there was a possibility they were related.
“It was amazing bro,” Desiigner, whose real name is Sidney Royel Selby III, said of his first meeting with the basketball star. “It’s crazy bro because it was like I’m really seeing my boy, man, I’m really seeing my brother. Like, I even called my pops on the phone with us. It looked crazy bro.”

Since then, the two are said to have formed a friendship, with Desiigner having often used his social media platforms to issue Shumpert with a shoutout while he was still playing in the NBA — the father of two hasn’t played professional basketball since his departure from the Brooklyn Nets last year.
Elsewhere in the interview, the New Yorker also revealed why he chose to leave Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music record label — the same label that distributed his 2015 breakthrough hit, “Panda.” Desiigner shared that at the time of his exit, he had been going through a lot mentally and felt that the wisest thing to do was to step away to focus his attention back on his family.
His father had begun developing health issues, which convinced him all the more to take a break, saying, “I was just coming up out of high school, my pops just went into a coma. While I was on tour, I was having a great time but I just knew something at home was happening with my mom and my pops health and sh**.”

“So it was just like, I wanted Ye to talk to and it was hard to speak on it. So I wound up just like, I don’t know man, I was just going through it. I had like a young emotional stage at that time, but I was having so much fun, bro.”
Under Ye’s record label, Desiigner would go on to release two projects: 2016’s “New English” and his 2018 extended play “L.O.D.,” which included production from household names such as Mike Dean and Sean Garrett.
