Hov has been the one signing off on everybody else’s big moment for years. Now it looks like he’s ready to take his own. Puck’s Dave Brooks reported on October 20 that multiple sources name Jay-Z as the pick for Super Bowl LXI, which means the man who decides who gets the biggest stage in American music has reportedly handed the keys to himself!

Jay-Z has been celebrating the 30th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint, two albums that rank among the pillars of hip-hop. Add his JAŸ-Z30 run, and 2026 has been a victory lap with receipts. Landing the halftime slot at the top of 2027 would be the cherry on a year that already felt like a coronation.
The game is set for February 14, 2027, so yes, Valentine’s Day. Now nobody has officially confirmed it. The NFL and Roc Nation did not release a statement to confirm, clarify or deny this report. However, Puck said a formal announcement could land this weekend, when Jay-Z plays SoFi Stadium on October 23 and 24. That’s the same building where the Super Bowl stage will go up less than four months later.
Roc Nation began working with the NFL in 2019 as its live music entertainment strategist, and the company has won Emmys for its work, including for Bad Bunny’s show this year. Under that umbrella came Dr. Dre’s all-star set, Rihanna, The Weeknd, Usher, and Kendrick Lamar. Puck also reported the NFL renewed the deal in 2024 for five more years at $5 million annually, so the partnership isn’t going anywhere.
In a January 2024 interview with Entertainment Tonight, he explained why he hadn’t put himself on the bill, saying, “I thought it would be selfish to pick myself too early. Maybe one year.” Well, it sounds like this might be the year. He waited, he watched, and he apparently decided the wait was over.
