SMH: Trump Endorses The Idea Of Changing ICE To “NICE”

In the middle of real conversations about immigration, accountability, and how this country treats people trying to build a life, Donald Trump just jumped online to back another bright idea…

The president recently reposted a message from X where somebody said,

“I want Trump to change ICE to NICE (National Immigration and Customs Enforcement) so the media has to say NICE agents all day everyday.” And instead of scrolling past it, he leaned in. His response? “GREAT IDEA!!! DO IT. President DJT”

Now, a lot of people don’t see U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as “nice” because of how its policies and actions have affected real families and communities. Moments like family separations at the border, reports of harsh conditions in detention centers, and aggressive raids in homes and workplaces have left a lasting impression. For many immigrant, even those with legal status, ICE represents fear and uncertainty, not safety. That kind of reputation doesn’t just fade with time, especially when people feel like the system hasn’t been fully held accountable.

On top of that, there’s a deeper political divide over what immigration enforcement should look like in the first place. Many Democrats and advocates believe the focus should shift toward more humane policies, including pathways to citizenship and less reliance on detention and deportation.

So to them, ICE has come to symbolize a system that needs serious reform. That’s why simply changing the name doesn’t sit right with a lot of folks, because the concern isn’t branding, it’s the real-life impact behind it.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump and his administration have been focused heavily on border security and stricter enforcement against illegal immigration. While folks are calling for reform, Trump is amplifying a branding joke like it’s a real solution.
