Aboard Air Force One, President Donald Trump once again stirred the political pot… this time hinting that a third term might not be completely off the table, even though the U.S. Constitution’s 22nd Amendment makes it crystal clear: two terms, and that’s it.
“I would love to do it,” Trump told reporters Monday as he headed to Japan. “I have my best numbers ever. It’s very terrible. I have my best numbers.”
That mix of confidence and contradiction has become classic Trump, but this latest tease about 2028 is already setting social media off. When pushed on whether he’d rule out another run, Trump stayed coy. “Am I not ruling it out? You’ll have to tell me,” he said. “All I can tell you is that we have a great, a great group of people, which they don’t,” he added, taking aim at the Democrats.
For the record, the 22nd Amendment straight up says no president can be elected more than twice. But Trump, never one to shy away from testing boundaries, brushed off talk of any legal fight. “I haven’t really thought about it,” he said.
The president was quick to brag about his poll numbers something he’s done since his campaign days — calling them “the best I’ve ever had.”
When asked who he thought could carry the Republican torch in 2028, Trump gave props to his own inner circle.
“We have great people. I don’t have to get into that, but we have one of them standing right here. We have, JD, obviously the vice president is great. Marco’s great,” Trump said, shouting out Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
But don’t expect Trump to pull a twist and join the ticket as someone’s running mate. “Yeah, I’d be allowed to do that,” he said when asked if he’d consider a VP slot. “I guess I think it’s too cute. Yeah, I would rule that out because it’s too cute. I think the people wouldn’t like that. It’s too cute. It’s not, it wouldn’t be right.”
And because it wouldn’t be a Trump press gaggle without a health flex, the president also opened up about his recent visit to Walter Reed hospital, something he described in pure Trump fashion.
“And if I didn’t think it was going to be good, either, I would let you know negatively. I wouldn’t run. I’d do something. But the doctor said some of the best reports for the age, some of the best reports they’ve ever seen,” he said.
Apparently, those “best reports” included an MRI scan. “It was perfect,” Trump said proudly.
When a reporter asked what exactly the MRI was for, Trump didn’t go into detail he pointed them back to his doctor. “I think they gave you a very conclusive, nobody has ever given you reports like I gave you,” he said.
