New Orleans Inmate Sentenced To Life After Throwing Feces At Corrections Officers

A New Orleans inmate has been sentenced to life in prison after he attacked corrections officers by throwing feces during a security round inside the B.B. “Sixty” Rayburn Correctional Facility.

The Incident

According to WDSU, 37-year-old Tomarcus Porter was already serving 20 years for multiple convictions when the attack happened. On June 10, during his battery trial, prosecutors described how Porter refused to follow instructions from officers, reached into his toilet, and hurled human feces at them. One officer was hit in the face, arms, and legs, while another was struck in the head and shoulder.

District Attorney Colin Sims confirmed Porter’s conviction on battery charges, adding to his already extensive record. He has now been sentenced to life in prison without parole. Porter’s prior convictions include manslaughter, four counts of aggravated battery, aggravated second-degree battery, and two counts of contraband introduction into a penal institution.

A Violent Criminal History

Porter’s criminal history paints a violent picture. He had earlier convictions for sexual battery, second-degree battery, and failing to register as a sex offender. His manslaughter conviction came from a case where the original charge was second-degree murder. The victim, a German woman visiting New Orleans, was found severely decomposed in Armstrong Park.

District Attorney’s Statement

District Attorney Colin Sims said the sentencing reflects the seriousness of the crime and Porter’s long history of violence. Attacking corrections officers with human waste was deemed a dangerous act that left both victims traumatized. The life sentence was also based on Porter’s repeat-offender status.
