In the early hours of Sunday (August 3), rapper Soulja Boy was arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion of a weapons charge after a gun was found in the car he sat passenger in.

NBC Los Angeles first reported on the incident. Citing the Los Angeles Police Department, NBCLA claimed SB was arrested during a traffic stop on Melrose Avenue. Police pulled over the vehicle, in which Soulja Boy, born DeAndre Cortez Way, was a passenger. LAPD officials pulled the car over around 2:30 a.m. It is currently unclear what prompted the traffic stop in the first place.

However, during the stop, the LAPD claimed to see a firearm inside of the car. Following an on-scene investigation, officers arrested Soulja Boy. They later booked him on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Soulja Boy Touted ‘I Don’t Need No Security’ Moments Before Felony Weapons Arrest

It is currently unclear who else was involved in the matter. However, Soulja Boy posted videos on his Instagram Story Saturday night (August 2) from his belated birthday (July 28) celebration at Los Angeles nightclub Poppy. In one video, he touted, “I don’t need no security.”

According to records published by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, the 35-year-old rapper charge level is listed as “Felony.” They have also reported that he was arrested as of 2:50 a.m. by LAPD officers in the Wilshire Division. Authorities then officially booked him at 6:18 a.m. at the Los Angeles County Jail. Story developing…
