Sean Kingston Sentenced to Over 3 Years in Prison for $1 Million Fraud Scheme
Welp… not-so-good news for Sean Kingston. The Jamaican singer was sentenced Friday to three and a half years in prison for his role in a $1 million fraud scheme.
As previously reported, back in March, Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, were convicted by a federal jury of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud. In July, Turner was slapped with a sentence of five years in the slammer.
In addition to Kingston’s prison sentence, he will also serve three years of supervised release.
The Fraud Scheme
The mother-and-son duo were busted in May 2024 after a SWAT team raided Kingston’s rented mansion in Southwest Ranches, Florida. Turner was taken into custody on the spot, while Kingston was later arrested at Fort Irwin — an Army training base in California’s Mojave Desert — where he was performing.
Federal prosecutors accused the two of orchestrating a scheme to obtain high-end items such as TVs, jewelry, and luxury cars without paying for them. They allegedly claimed to have made wire payments for some of the merchandise, but investigators discovered the payments were never successfully completed.
Authorities presented evidence of fake wire transfer receipts that the pair used as “proof” of payment. During the scheme, officials said Kingston and Turner retained more than $1 million worth of goods and assets without fulfilling their financial obligations.
On top of the federal convictions, both are also facing separate state fraud charges.
